Non Scale EVA-02 - The beast

Hi everyone !
Here is a new project that I will work after my last comisstion.

It is my entry submission and WIP for the 2012 Mecha Contest on Mecha Lounge forum. (Formerly MAC Forum)

What I like in this contest is that you can share your work in WIP with no restriction while the contest is running.
This forum is very specialized in mechas and there ar e a lot of amazing works and mecha masters.
I registered to this contest and will do my best.

I'm a fan of Evangelion and I was glad to have won this kit on Yahoo Japan Auction last year.
I bought it 13000 Yens, that was a fair price because it is the price written on the instruction sheet.

I will make a special base for this kit, I will try to be close as what we can see in the scene of the movie, when the EVA-02 transformed to "The Beast"
You may see it at 2'50" just before the EVA Attack the Angel. I may add destroyed building, some armor parts that I will have to create, etc... I thinks that I will have to remade the "restrictors" that are attached to the Eva back and shoulders... A lot of fun work !

Oh great!! That's a good challenge to chose this kit against the usual Gundams presented at the mac contest.
I realy like this forum, they have good policy particulary against copy...

Looking at the kit, I can some things very interesting to do and I'm realy curious to see where you will go!

The cast is not good for sure. Buble are enemy of the garagekitter
What is the scale ?

For the eyes this is a newby mistake, he know he had to use events to let the resin flow.
That's surprising because there is more fines parts on this kit, maybe he hadn't noticed this bubbles during the test,
and when he saw it he must have said: "how crikey f**k! ..... come on, they just have to use little glass balls! :P

The scale, I don't know exactly, Eva are big mechas, I have read on several site that they measure about 70 or 80 m and sometimes it's 42 m like the pict below...

I really have to search some infos about that... or trying to verify the scale by making screenshots of the movies/serie...
EVA models are most of the time "non-scale" so it's pretty hard to have exact informations about that...
This video can also possibly give an idea of the scale...



Don't worry, the bubbles are not so hard to fix ! Yeah Sleepwalker, I may fin some tiny replacement balls...
I had an idea first, it was to replace the eyes by some optic fiber with green leds... but by seeing the parts, it seems that it will be very difficult to set...

This will be a blast, as always, Master Ogami.

I'm so sorry for the lack of updates during the two last months, the work on this kit is not going as fast as I would like !...
I have still a lot of work on it before starting the painting job. But here are some new picts for the moment !

What kind of metal are your 1mm pinning made of?

The 1 mm pin is made of steel, I gathered some in such items when I made some electrical rennovation work at home, it is used to attach and to pull the electric cables in the PVC pipe. It is very resistant and cheap in the same time !

Just forgot to tell in my latest reply, but simple paper-clips work also very well, it is the same diameter !

Oh ok!! It is that big! With the picture I thought it was something very very thin, but the kit is realy big,
and 1 mm it's not very thin! ^^'

If you want very thin metal pin, I suggest you to cut some led or resistors "legs" : You may find some smaller than 0,5 mm diameter...


Yep the kit is pretty big (I mean for an Eva kit)... It is about 1,5 or twice bigger than a Eva Bandai Plastic kit.
To immagine the size, my base project that you can see on the pict below is measuring 52x38 cm :

you have the attention to detail and wants to stay very faithful to the manga, that's agood vision.
Evangelion is a specific universe and it's not easy to make it. Your base add the atmosphere so well...
